David Tyler Schmelhaus is the kind of person who makes everyone—his family, friends, and community—feel safe and seen. He is a smart, funny, dedicated person who pours his heart into his community. David is 55 years young, and his contagious enthusiasm towards life shows it!

Recently, David received the unexpected diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). The diagnosis came suddenly, and he began intensive chemotherapy immediately, which will be aggressive and ongoing. David will be hospitalized for several months as he undergoes treatment, which will include a bone marrow transplant. While his focus right now is treatment and recovery, the road ahead will be long and demanding.

Leukemia treatment is not only physically demanding, it also brings months of missed work, significant medical expenses, and everyday expenses. This fundraiser is meant to help ease that burden so he can put his energy into healing.

David is very beloved by his family, friends, and colleagues, who have asked how they can help. Any support, whether through a donation or by sharing this page, means more than words can express.

Also an option is giving blood at a local blood bank as David is currently dependent on blood transfusions (as are many others), and giving blood is such a selfless thing to do.
