Hi, my name is Sabrina! I have always been passionate about pursuing a career in healthcare. This passion stems from a deeply personal experience of witnessing the impact of quality medical care on the lives of my loved ones. My first exposure of the pivotal role healthcare providers play was when my father was involved in a near fatal motorcycle collision while on his way from work where he was thrown 40 feet off of his motorcycle, resulting in a shattered pelvis, internal bleeding, torn rotator cuff, plus a multitude of bruises, cuts, and scratches. Witnessing the critical care and treatment provided by doctors and staff during such a traumatic event evoked a range of emotions, including a deep sense of admiration and respect for healthcare professionals that profoundly influenced that dream of mine to become a doctor. From this day, I have been drawn to the idea of making a difference in people’s lives through medicine. As I progressed through my education, this passion only grew stronger, and I became determined to pursue a career in psychiatry.
However, the path to medical school is not without its challenges. As an aspiring medical student, I understand the importance of gaining practical experience and exposure to different healthcare systems. This is where the Atlantis shadowing program comes into play. The opportunity to shadow healthcare professionals in Italy and Greece would provide me with invaluable insights into global healthcare practices, allowing me to broaden my perspective and gain a deeper understanding of the field, while also being involved in groundbreaking research and enrolled in a medical course at Harvard.
The Atlantis program offers a unique opportunity for pre-med students like myself to gain hands-on experience in clinical settings. By participating in this program, I will have the chance to observe and learn from healthcare professionals, engage with patients, and immerse myself in diverse medical environments. This experience will not only enhance my knowledge but also strengthen my resolve to pursue a career in medicine.
For me, participating in the Atlantis shadowing program is more than just an opportunity to observe healthcare practices abroad. It is a crucial step in my journey towards becoming a compassionate and competent psychiatrist. The exposure to different cultural perspectives on healthcare will enrich my understanding of patient care and further fuel my commitment to making a positive impact on people’s lives through medicine.
The experiences gained through the Atlantis shadowing program will undoubtedly bolster my medical school application. Admissions committees seek candidates who demonstrate a genuine passion for healthcare and a well-rounded understanding of the field. By participating in this program, I will be able to showcase my dedication to pursuing a career in medicine and highlight the valuable insights I have gained from international healthcare experiences.
The Atlantis shadowing program in Italy and Greece is a 6-week program that holds immense significance for me as an aspiring medical professional. It represents an unparalleled opportunity to expand my knowledge, gain practical experience, and solidify my commitment to serving others through healthcare. By sharing how Atlantis aligns with my personal story and aspirations, I hope to garner support for this transformative experience that will undoubtedly shape my journey towards becoming a psychiatrist.
The funds will be used completely towards this amazing experience! This program is $14,000 and will include shadowing, housing, some meals, and some transportation, but does not include any of the airfare! This means flying from the US to Italy, from Italy to Greece, and Greece back to the US is not included!
