So Beso Can Run Again: Help Me Save My Girl

Donation protected
My name is Sarah Flann, and I am humbly asking for community support to save my best friend: my coyote-wolf-dragon dog, Beso. She is my life companion — and she is very sick.

Our Story
I live with complex PTSD and an autoimmune condition called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS). Nervous system dysregulation directly affects my immune system, and unpredictable immune flares intensify PTSD symptoms, creating a cycle that has kept me off work and on BC Disability since 2022.

After years of instability, I was paired with Beso, a PTSD service dog in training, through a training organization, investing $27,300 as a last effort to reclaim joy, purpose, and quality of life. She came home in August 2025, just one day before my father passed away. I believe we were meant to find each other. Through time and trust, she has changed how I relate to the world and become the greatest love I have ever known. While Beso is here, I wish to be too.

The Illness
Only three months after arriving, Beso developed a sudden and severe gastrointestinal illness, leading to repeated hospitalizations, intensive diagnostics, strict dietary management, and ongoing veterinary care. What was first thought to be acute is now strongly suspected to be chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a lifelong condition with no cure. She is currently under the care of Canada West internal medicine and beginning steroid treatment. Further diagnostics such as endoscopy and biopsy may be required.

Why Beso Matters
Beso is a deeply sensitive and sovereign being. Her greatest joy is running — she moves with the power and grace of a dragon. To witness her is magic. Right now, she cannot express herself the way she longs to. She has lost nine pounds since her illness began and must wear a muzzle outdoors, as even the smallest thing from the ground can trigger a severe relapse. Every day counts.

Beso is my family, and our home is just the two of us. In a world that feels uncertain for people living with disability, I choose Beso, and she is choosing to fight. Advocating for her healing has become an act of my own healing and justice. My greatest wish is to see her run freely again in this lifetime.

How You Can Help
Supporting Beso’s recovery requires full-time daily care and ongoing lifestyle adjustments. To date, her medical care has cost over $15,000, requiring me to take on debt.

I am asking for $25,000 to support Beso’s restoration to health and ongoing well-being, which includes:

Specialized prescription diet and long-term medications
Ongoing veterinary and internal medicine care, including management of flare-ups
Emergency treatment, hospitalization, and diagnostics (including possible endoscopy/biopsy)
Support for our new lifestyle transition: anxiety management, specialized equipment, training, and enrichment

If you can, please consider sharing this GoFundMe with your networks. Any donation, large or small, would mean the absolute world to me, as Beso is mine.

With deepest gratitude,
Sarah Flann
