The Winnipeg Poetry Slam is proud to announce our 2025 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam (CIPS) Champion is none other than BWriteword! After a rigorous two rounds of 12 competing poets, BWriteword tied with One of the Many on November 26th. For two months, both poets prepared and polished their verbal swords to battle it out in January, and BWriteword narrowly came out on top. Now he has to get to Vancouver to compete at the national level!

Chimezie Bright Osunwoke (BWriteword) is a Nigerian permanent resident of Canada. He's a poet and coauthor of “naming our bodies" (anthology of poetry, 2019).

He's winner of Winnipeg Poetry Slam (WPS) - CIPS qualifier 2024, Poets in Nigeria (PIN) Yaba poetry slam Lagos Nigeria (2018), 1st runner up at AskIfa spoken word battle - 7.0 and 8.0 editions, he emerged top 5 at AfricanFilmCapital spoken word contest (Dec. 2018), 1st runner up at PIN performance poetry slam of Festival Poetry Calabar (2018). He is very passionate about self expression and story telling through poetry.

There is no one more worthy of representing Winnipeg and Manitoba than this phenomenal wordsmith. We accept any donations of any value. Money will go towards flight and accommodations - please help us get BWriteword to CIPS!!!

Funds will be used for accomodation, food, flight, and other expenses!
