Help for Boris
UPDATE!
Boris has had one chemotherapy option that has now been deemed unsuccessful, his cancer is so far advanced that we are going to try CHOP a second chemotherapy option. This is not to cure the cancer Boris has but to help maintain his quality at end of life. as a family this is continued pressures, expenses and traveling.

Meet Boris — our gentle giant, a five-year-old Newfoundland with a heart as big as his paws. Since February, Boris has been battling a relentless and painful health crisis that has turned our world upside down.

It all began with a severe hotspot and constant itching. We did everything we could — shaving the area, treating it at home, and rushing him to the vet. Boris was prescribed medication and Cytopoint injections, but nothing seemed to help. Weekly vet visits turned into biweekly ones, and he was placed on a cocktail of antibiotics, steroids, and eventually Apoquel.

Then things took a devastating turn.

After two months on Apoquel, Boris became seriously unwell. We discovered a large mass on his paw, along with several smaller ones. The vet immediately advised us to stop the Apoquel — it can feed tumours. The fear and pain Boris endured were unbearable.

He underwent a biopsy and skin scrapes, and it’s now suspected that his condition may not be allergy-related at all, but something far more complex. We’re facing the possibility of underlying issues that require urgent attention from a specialist referral unit.

Our insurance has refused to help — again and again.

Despite our efforts, every claim — from the initial treatments to the biopsy — has been rejected. We’ve already spent thousands trying to get Boris the care he needs. To make matters worse, Boris’s human dad was recently made redundant, and our financial situation has become incredibly strained.

Boris can’t even go on his beloved walks anymore.

His paws are so sore and inflamed that even short strolls are out of the question. For a dog who lives for fresh air, sniffing trees, and wagging at passersby, this has been heartbreaking. He’s confined to the house, missing out on the simple joys that once made his tail wag.

We’re not giving up on Boris. He’s more than a pet — he’s family. His goofy smile, his gentle nature, and his unconditional love have carried us through so much. Now, we need to carry him.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

— Boris’s Family
