I'm trying to raise emergency funds for an old friend who has fallen on terrible luck. I was his faculty advisor, and found him to be a deeply caring, bright and talented student, who did admirable community service. He began nutritious food and drink enterprises, which were doing well. Meanwhile, he and his wife had a daughter with severe disabilities. He worked exhaustively to secure appropriate services for her despite his own health issues. When I moved, I lost touch with him for a while, but now discover that due to his businesses falling on hard times and mounting medical expenses for his daughter, himself and family members he was trying to also help, they are now homeless. He has gotten a good job, but between having to spend time with social service appointments and not being able to afford the expense of traveling by train to the various locations this new job requires, he has lost enough days' wages to prevent him from getting out of the hole they're in. They had been living at a hotel, but the manager continued to raise their rents, finally forcing them out. They're currently looking for a shelter or warming center.
This shouldn't be happening, and he needs help. He has trouble asking for it, but I was lucky enough to check in with him and have volunteered it. He doesn't want this to support him. He just needs enough, a couple of thousand dollars, to get temporary shelter and transportation money, so that he can hold onto this job and get his family into a permanent home. Thank you for anything at all, no matter how small, that you can contribute. Please know that this is not in any way a scam. I am a retired community college instructor, who, being retired and living on a tight fixed income, have not been able to sufficiently help him myself.
