Hi, I’m Amber, a single mum trying to keep my head above water.

Recently, my daughter and I moved into a new home after struggling to keep up with rent at our old place. I paid the bond and moving costs upfront, only to find the new house was unlivable — mouse droppings, broken windows, cockroaches, leaking toilets (used toilet water), and a bathroom not even up to building code. Plus many other safety issues.

We’re now trying to cancel the lease under the 7-day clause, but I’ve been told I’ll still owe two weeks’ rent plus the moving costs on top of my regular bills. I’m behind on my car repayments and terrified of losing it, which is my only transport for my daughter.

I’ve always done my best to support us without asking for help, but this situation has pushed me past my limit. I was moving because the rent was raised so high here that it takes all the pay that I get and I have been surviving on $100 a fortnight as is. Any donation, no matter how small, would help me cover the unexpected costs of moving, rent, and keeping our car so I can continue to work and support my daughter.
