In memory of Chris Brown

My brother, Chris Brown was someone very special. If you were lucky enough to know him, you know how smart, caring, talented, and kind Chris was. He was a talented musician, a great cook, incredibly bright, and full of compassion. Chris was the kind of person who would open his home to anyone who needed it, and did on many occasions. While he had a mischievous streak that landed him in trouble more than once (or twice) when he was younger, he was never mean spirited or malicious. Indeed, Chris was the most tender-hearted person I’ve ever known.  He was a great friend who influenced for the better the lives of the people who knew him. Chris may have been the younger brother, but the way he lived his life set a standard for those blessed enough to be close to him, even if they were years older.

Recently Chris went to the hospital complaining of abdominal pain and flu-like symptoms. The doctors who were treating him recognized signs of a much more serious condition, and admitted him on Tuesday. It soon became clear the situation was far more severe than anyone thought. His condition deteriorated as more complications developed, until several of his organs started to shut down. The doctors and nurses who attended him are to be commended for what can only be described as heroic and exhaustive efforts to save my brother's life. In the end there was nothing more that could be done, and he passed away on Sunday night. When he passed he was surrounded by loved ones including family and a few of his friends and the many, many people blessed enough to have had their loves touched by his gentle friendship. He was sent off amidst stories of his adventures as a young man, jokes, and fond tears.

While Chris did have health insurance, the cost of his stay in the hospital, and the care he received, which included life support to buy him the time he needed for his organs to recover, is going to be considerable. This Go Fund Me campaign is being established to help Chris' family cover the costs of the medical care he received up through his final moments.

If you would like to help his family, please donate here to help pay for out of pocket medical expenses in lieu of sending flowers. Please also share your memories and stories of Chris, as these are a legacy that can be shared with his family for years to come.
