Heather Coffman went to a barbecue at her friend's house on Saturday where people commented that she looked unwell. She admitted that she hadn't been feeling good and she was noticeably jaundiced. Her friends convinced her to go to the hospital where she was immediately admitted and later airlifted to OHSU in Portland in critical condition. She likely would not have survived the night without medical intervention. Heather was diagnosed with a large tumor on her liver that is pressing on her bile duct. A biopsy confirmed that the tumor is cancerous, and it will need to be removed along with a large portion of her liver. She is currently receiving blood transfusions. Over the next several months, Heather will require approximately 15 surgeries.
Heather and her sister Michelle both reside in Medford and are on disability. They are very active in their local community and volunteer with many organizations including Unite Oregon, Salvation Army, OSU Master Food Preservers, and various animal rescues.
The medical costs already incurred, as well as the following surgeries, are a devastating financial blow. Additionally, Michelle is having to pay for housing and food in Portland while Heather is at OHSU, as well as maintaining the costs of their home in Medford and the care of their rescue cat, Kiki. Their dogs Dot and Arrow are with them in Portland as they are special needs with medical conditions in addition to being service dogs.
If you are able, please consider donating to the Coffman sisters so that they can focus on Heather getting better and returning home soon. You may donate through this fundraiser or to Kari Livingston's Venmo. No amount is too small, even if it's just enough for a meal. If you are unable to help monetarily, please share this fundraiser on any and all platforms.
