I am based in the US, my parents and sister are in Chennai. My sister moved from back to the US to a village in India and spent a decade over there living in a Harijan village. She has been a grassroots activist for over two decades. With #ChennaiRains, my sister is actively involved with three amazing volunteers on the ground. These are
Piyush Mahesh
Sridhar Lakshmanan
Hima
This fund raising is directly to move monies directly to these three individuals and their band of volunteers.

I am personally not on the ground and doing an iota of what these amazing folks are doing. But, I want to help in a small way by galavnizing amazing individuals aka YOU - who want to help and are looking to have an impact and help folks directly.

Finally, here is a poem my mom penned a couple of days ago and it comes from the heart ! Please help !

Ode To My Birthland.

Sky watched the earth.
It was parched, dusty, dry.
Sky heaved a heavy sigh.
She appealed to the returning wet winds,
And the generous bay.
They conspired to make pregnant clouds amass
And shower zillions of their offspring on earth.
There was RAIN; there was JOY.
Was the torture of waterlessness over?
Waterlessness, yes ; but, torture, no.
The treacherous rain, with rigour and vigour
Poured down, relentlessly, incessantly
Till joy turned to sorrow.
Dams, tanks, canals, rivers broke their bunds and overflowed;
Dark waves of the dangerous bay
Danced a monstrous dance,
While life watched in utter dismay.
Waters gushed into every nook and corner
Of huts, homes, hospitals, highrises;
Roads were rivers, highways a havoc, open spaces oceans
Homeless stood the confounded multitude,
Possessions impounded by the hideous waters.
Misery knows no bounds.
Compassion, too, knows no bounds.
Nature’s fury threw a challenge;
Compassion’s bounty faced it.
Selfless service surfaced,
Hands a-hundred held out,
Boats bore families to safety,
Drones dropped food a-plenty,
Jawans marched into the menacing mess
To relieve and restore.
Doctors beyond the call of duty,
Nurses as never before,
Youth with vigour and vitality,
Homemakers in all humility
Elders acting prayerfully
All pitched in to balm
The grateful grief-stricken.
Depression in the bay is not
Depression in the heart.
Cheer up, Chennai!

God bless everyone !
