I am asking for help because I am in an urgent financial crisis caused by a chronic neurological condition and a delayed job start. My condition causes seizures, motor and gait issues, confusion, "lost time", memory loss, and speech issues. I rely on anticonvulsants and a half dozen other medications to stay as stable as possible, but my prescription and medical expenses are more than $2,400 a month out of pocket. I was previously employed in IT for over 16 years and doing just fine, until I developed this illness and experienced a couple other major setbacks around the same time.
Right now, the process of losing my house and the equity in it begins this week. My bankruptcy will also be dismissed if I cannot catch up on $5,000 in arrears this week, which is one month earlier than I will have that kind of money. I have been selling everything that is not nailed down, and I plan to sell the house as soon as possible, but I need time to get there.
This has become a cycle I cannot break on my own. When I cannot consistently refill my medication, I relapse, and those relapses affect my ability to work. Then not being able to work affects my ability to afford the medication I need. Within the past year, I have had to choose between food, utilities, and medicine. I never imagined I would be in this position. Everything was fantastic and I never even had debt in my life until I got sick and had to gradually drain my savings to stay alive.
Any support will help me cover essential medication and buy critical time to catch up on housing arrears before I lose my home. I have others who depend on me as well that I am failing because of this and the guilt is overwhelming. If you are able to donate or share this fundraiser, it would mean more than I can say and may literally be saving my life -- it is life-threatening for me to keep missing my medication. I hope to be well and stable enough again one day to go back to being the person who helps my friends, like I used to be before I got sick, instead of the person who needs to ask for help.
