Update: An OASIS for students with autism

Tax deductible

“My kid is about to get kicked out of his after school program. I am going to lose my job.” These  simple, yet heartbreaking, sentences are what motivated two special education teachers to create OASIS NC, and the first afterschool program for children with autism in all of southeastern North Carolina.

Since incorporating in 2011, OASIS NC has constantly evolved to reflect the needs of the community.  The most impactful and critically needed program by far has been Southeastern Autism Academy (SEAA).  Starting in 2014, as an elementary school, SEAA has grown into a K-12 school offering high school diplomas to its graduates.

OASIS NC understands that individuals with Autism, ADHD, and Anxiety want to be successful in relationships, academics, and in the community.  Our proactive, reflective, relationship-based strategies transform our students from merely surviving to thriving.  We are a place where all students feel understood, accepted, and celebrated for who they are.  Amazingly, there is no other place like it.

After 10 years of providing hope and happiness to our students and their families, OASIS NC is excited to finally be ready to BUY A BUILDING!! Located on wooded acre in central Wilmington, we would be doubling our current square footage, staying close to I-40 and UNCW, and establishing ourselves as permanent members of the community.  The new building would also allow us to:

·         Double the number of students with autism (during Covid).

·         Triple the number of students with autism (after Covid).

·         Add two inclusion classrooms.

·         Provide additional staff for art, music, drama, PE, and dance.

·         Provide additional space for after school and intersession camp programs.

·         Create a program for adults with disabilities (including internships, jobs, and social programs).

·         Use the on-site kitchen to teach our students nutrition and wellness life skills like meal planning, preparation, and cooking.

·         Use the on-site gardening, composting, and rain barrels for numerous sustainability education opportunities.

·         Offer our students a large outdoor area to play, explore, and grow.  (Connecting with nature is one of the best ways our students learn to find inner peace and calm during difficult moments.)

The goal of this fundraiser is to raise the $100,000 we need for a down payment on this magical building and property that will make a million of our dreams come true.
