For those lucky enough to be in community and friendship with Seraif, we know how much she gives and how hard she fights for all of us. Those close to her also know of the one thousand lives she has had to live, the struggles she has been doled out, and the losses she has sustained as a human that is ever targeted by transmisogyny - from society, her bio family, and also within queer communities that still do not value and protect trans women. Several friends have come together to make this fundraiser for her because we love her and have all been cared for by her in a myriad of ways throughout our time knowing her and in our unique relationships with her.
Seraif is someone who endlessly shows up for the most targeted people wherever she lives because she knows intimately what that means. Her dedication and work toward dismantling the systems we live in, as well as her unwavering drive to live a life that is full, safe and bursting with love, is felt by those who know her and is demonstrated in her organizing work, her roles in community, her time spent counselling queer/trans youth, and so many more facets of who she is. Seraif is a double Libra with a roaring Leo moon, a tarot reader, a student of several crafts, an incredible artist, a sister, an auntie, a godmother, a cat parent, a roommate, a huge fucking nerd, a community member, a friend.
Seraif is also someone that has experienced many iterations of the trans healthcare systems in Ontario and Quebec and has been around long enough to know that while some advancements have been made, things are not getting better for trans women. The VAST MAJORITY of trans women in Ontario are not considered eligible for OHIP coverage of breast augmentation because of strict criteria informed by cissexism, transmisogyny and classism, which means paying for surgery out of their own pockets. Doing so is impossible for anyone who doesn’t come from wealth, like Seraif. Many of us have witnessed and participated in the funding of trans healthcare, and we have seen how community can rally. Although we know it will take time, we believe we can achieve this funding goal and get our friend the care she needs, deserves and has been waiting on for DECADES! We have set up this fundraiser at Seraif's request, but the funds will go directly to her and she has access to everything. Please share widely, donate if you can, and feel free to leave Seraif a nice message.
