Buy Jim A Beer, Help Him Sort Out His Life.

I’ve created this internet begging thing because things have reached a point where I need to do something I have avoided my whole life: ask others for help.

As some of you already know, the past few months have been a pretty goddamn brutal time for me up here. But here is the basic run down:

Lost my job in early June after a longstanding dispute with my employer came to a head. Did not start a new job until early September. All attempts to receive Centrelink benefits were rejected, appealed, reassessed, rejected again. For the duration of this period, I had no source of income, relying on charities, community organisations and the generosity of close friends and family to get me through.

Needless to say, this has caused me to accrue a significant amount of personal debt. However, this is not the reason I am writing. There is money coming my way in the next couple of months that will eliminate this debt.

However, between now and then, there are numerous other expenses that need addressing including but not limited to:

• Despite my lack of income, I have been issued a $1,400 tax bill.

• $300 bill for the accountant to prepare said tax.

• Computer crashed and died taking with it around 2TB of photos, university work and journals, previous graphic design projects and resources and music recording resources, album demos and the like. I am hoping to recover that data.

• Car is in need of maintenance and repair.

• Guitar is in need of maintenance and repair

• Utility bills are all approaching cut off.

• Despite paying the ATO over $11,000 this year alone, they’re still holding some of my HECS.

Here is what I am asking:

I have put a figure of $2,400 as the “target” for this. This amount is 6 weeks rent in my current rental property. Using this to pay advance rent, I will be able to use 3 pay checks from my new job to chip away at these expenses, so when/if this expected money does come in, I can repay my debts, and hopefully start getting things back on track without the other expenses looming overhead.

THE DEAL:

I don’t want you to donate $20, $50 or anything like that. What I am asking is this: if I told you the story of everything that’s gone done in the past few months, most of ye would offer to buy me a beer.

So I’m asking for the price of a schooner, pint, whatever your unit of measure, from your local. Just one. And don’t do the “here’s $50, I’ll buy ye a bunch of beers” thing. That’s not how I want this to work.

As this platform does allow anonymity, anyone who chucks in will receive SOMETHING. Dunno what yet, but likely something music-based, or art-based. I’ll figure it out.

If you’ve already helped me out during these trough times, please don’t do it again. You’ve done enough.

If you can't afford it, absolutely no worries. I gets it. Don’t feel compelled. I will be ok.
