Hello everyone~

My name is Teacher JJ. I work for an SAT prep academy in Georgia. One of my current students is a visually-impaired senior in high school. She is preparing to take the SAT so that she can go to college.

In our most recent class, which was scheduled to be one hour, we had to spend nearly half the time trying to get her braille notetaker to work. She said that if she kept re-booting it, it would eventually work.

As we struggled, I asked her about the braille notetaker. I found out that she has had it since she was in elementary school. This was the specific model that she was trained to use, and it has been with her all throughout her school life. She even agreed when I said it must be one of her "oldest friends."

She went on to say that it has been malfunctioning for a while now. I asked her why she didn't just purchase a new one. She simply replied, "My family cannot afford a new one."

My heart started to break and I researched online, trying to see if I could find a way to buy one for her. But, sure enough, a new one was shown to be nearly $6,000, way more than I could afford.

In my time with her, I learned how important this machine is to her. It is called a braille notetaker, but it's more like a smartphone for the visually-impaired. Not only can she take notes on it, it acts as her textbook, it can be her media player, and she can write emails to her friends with it.

Please consider donating what you can to fund my student. She is so kind, considerate, bright, and determined. I hope and pray to see the day when I get to present her with a new model. I want to see her smile brightly with her family looking on!
