We found a stray cat hanging around our paintball site. She looks like he has had a bad accident a while ago as his back leg is not functioning and just flops around, skin and bone. We fed her and made him comfortable whilst we decided what to do. After a few days of feeding her on site, we noticed he wasn't just skinny, but in a worse state that we originally thought. We picked the ticks off her and gave her a look over. His breathing is a bit croaky and she's got a few cuts and bruises.
Local PDSA and charities are only taking on "emergency" treatments, so we will have to take him to a vets. We spoke to friends on facebook who suggested a go fund me to cover his vet expenses, which could cost up to £1k! if his leg needs to be removed, plus Spay / Neuter, and any other issues he may have.
However on further investigation, we have found that she has fluid building up in her chest cavity (Chylothorax) which impacts her breathing. This fluid is made by the lymph system and is discharging via a broken tube that needs specialist surgery to repair. The fluid has been drained off 3 times so far and each time it's less. Positive direction. But this is just treating the symptoms, not the cause. This surgery and some scans need to be done by a specialist and could cost up to £7000 plus any other associated costs.
She is currently comfortable and responding well. Undergoing a few more tests to rule out heart defects and anything else that may cause this problem.
This gives us some time to see if we can crowd fund this huge amount, or if she will be put to sleep.
