John's Battle with Stage 4 Glioblastoma

This summer John and his family have experienced the unthinkable. John was rushed to the hospital after having several seizures while loading lumber in his truck for a weekend project.  He was then placed in a medical coma for days while they tried to determine the cause. It was during these days of anguish and unknowns that they discovered a mass in his brain approximately the size of a golf ball. The Butler family's world was turned absolutely upside down in that moment. They had to send him into emergency brain surgery.

After the brain surgery, where the majority of the tumor was removed, he has been diagnosed with Glioblastoma. A brain cancer which is extremely aggressive and rare. Only 3 in 100,000 are diagnosed with Glioblastoma in the United States. While there is no cure available, treatment is provided to prolong life. Unlike most other cancers, you hardly ever hear about GBM. It creeps in silently and takes over brain matter and cells with quickness and cruelty unmatched by any other cancers. This is just the beginning. The prognosis for GBM is better when the tumor is able to be removed, so in John's case, he will always have to remain in front of the growth as it is still present in his brain.

Our witty, loving, amazing dad, husband, brother, cousin, nephew, uncle, son, and friend, John, will be going through an incredibly intense treatment of chemotherapy and radiation to receive the best care available in order to prolong his time with us.

We have established this GoFundMe in order to fund the immediate and upcoming medical expenses for treatment and any travel that is required.

To get to know John better, I've included pictures of his childhood and favorite pictures from all of our family members. You'll see that John was an adventurer at heart when he was little, with an amazing childhood in the Amazon, making friends everywhere he went. His quick smile lights up a heart and a room! You can tell he always jumped in as a kid to bring help or joy to every situation, and that personality of kindness and compassion is what led him to become a police officer and has been with the Redford police department for over 20 years.  His family is his everything, and his sweet little grandbaby girls are his pride and joy.

Our family is so moved by your outpouring of love, support, meals and prayers we have already received. We are sincerely grateful for our friends and family, near and far, who have reached out to offer help. Our family is beyond devastated  by this news. Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Please continue to lift John up in prayer.
