Butchertown Brewing Legal Fees

We are an aspiring, new, very small batch craft brewery located in the historic Butchertown neighborhood, in Louisville, Ky.  We have been working towards opening since October of 2019, with the hopes of joining the many fine breweries in Louisville’s growing beer community.  Our goal is to honor the rich history of beer brewing in Louisville, and specifically the history of beer in Butchertown, by brewing the best beer we know how.


On April 29, 2020, we received a “Cease & Desist” letter from “Copper & Kings American Brandy Co.” in which they claimed trademark ownership of the name “Butchertown”.  We are currently involved in the legal process to establish our right to use “Butchertown” in our name.


However, we are a small business with limited resources.  While we had planned on many expenses in opening, and even had contingency plans for budget overruns, we did not plan on this.  After a lot of thought and consideration, we have decided to launch a gofundme campaign with the goal of raising $5000 to support a portion of our legal fees.  All proceeds from this campaign will go towards this legal process and any funds left over will be donated to Kentucky Guild Of Brewers.
