Megan is one of the proudest people I know and would never ask for help herself or take a handout no matter the circumstances. As one of her close friends it’s agonizing to see her (or anyone you care about for that matter) suffering, physically, emotionally and financially.
In the midst of an emotionally devastating year, Megan learned she would need a second spine surgery for further degeneration of the discs above her first surgical site (2016),. Simultaneously, she also learned that her original surgical fusion had failed. To repair the failed fusion she had to undergo an extremely painful and invasive surgery that had her in the hospital for almost a week. She has been unable to work since August and stuck at home for the vast majority of the last two months. Megan is now burdened with $5000 in out-of-pocket hospital costs. This financial burden, coupled with a long and painful recovery is one of hardest setbacks she's been facing. But wait, there's more (hence the title of the gofundme, lol). All of this comes at a time where Megan has already suffered multiple emotional and financial losses over the course of the last year:
-the loss of her aunt Mary, who was brutally murdered
-the loss of her friend and our beloved Coach John
-the betrayal of a friend and subsequent untimely end of her long term relationship with her fiance
-the short notice move which required a hefty deposit/1st months rent.
Needless to say, an abundance of stress does not lend itself to the luxury of grieving all of the above. On top of all this, the most recent issue: the doctor's office has been lax in filing the appropriate FMLA forms therefore her disability pay isn’t coming through. NEAT. Now, not surprisingly, bills are piling up. In complete transparency, the FMLA money will come in, however there is no telling when. For those that may not know, temporary disability pay is only 60% of her regular pay.
Finally, Megan is still recovering. It will take several more months to a year until she is back to business as usual. So I’m here, on her behalf, asking for help. It would be great if we can ban together to ensure Megan has enough money for food and to keep a roof over her and her 4 beloved pet's heads. And honestly, depending on your generosity, maybe even get her to a place where she has a little cushion and breathing room. Anything you can donate - no matter how small - will make a huge difference for Megan. If you’re facing financially difficult times as well, please consider donating your time (helping with grocery shopping, pet care, house chores, or even just a phone call or text to say you care).
