Bury Jose So His Body Can Rest And His Soul Fly

Jose Requena was a beacon of joy, perseverance, and enthusiasm. Anyone who had the pleasure of being embraced by him were gifted to his kind, loving, and altruistic nature. If he knew you, he welcomed you with open arms (And probably a silly joke). He took great pride in everything he did, marveling in his own ability to solve problems with his ingenuity and creativity, oftentimes taking the time to show everyone what he was able to create with his own hands.

Jose was loved by so many. He had such a boisterous and genuine laugh. His gentle eyes soothed even the most callous of souls. He lived life to the utmost fullest, finding gratification and amusement in even the most trivial of things.

Jose was also a family man. Being the backbone and foundation of those who loved him. Giving everything of himself to make sure that his family was happy.

Jose also loved all his friends just as much. Each and every time someone would fly into Las Vegas he would take the time, even if working, to go out and see them. He especially loved picking people up at the airport, just so that he could take pride in showing him the place where he dedicated his craft and life to.

Jose was also a military man. Spending 22 years of his life in the Airforce. Retiring with multiple honors.

On July 11th, Jose had developed a sore throat. Him having been vaccinated for Covid-19, didn't think much of it as it was just a simple symptom.

It wasn't until July 13th that he found out that he and his wife Cecile had tested positive for Covid. They spent the weekend caring for each other while in quarantine. Unfortunately for Jose, his symptoms worsened. It wasn't until July 21st that he started to have problems breathing. He was immediately taken to the hospital in an ambulance after seeing that his O2 saturation was low.

It was at the UMC hospital where he spent the next 2 weeks fighting for his life. Covid had progressively gotten worse and his lungs had became inflamed. At the end, he fought long and hard, but his body had to embrace the inevitability. He was announced deceased at 11:50pm, August 6th. They were able to escort him out with pride and honor as he was shielded by the cloth of the country he had avidly fought for.

So now it's time to let this soldier rest. He loved life and everything about it. Nobody lived life as full as he did. But something he was especially proud of was how good he was at his craft. He dedicated his life towards planes. 22 years in the Air Force running equipment systems to ensure the safe landing of aircraft, and15 years in the Federal Aviation Administration maintaining the measurement systems for the commercial planes. He loved his job and he was proud of it.

Unfortunately at the tail end Jose's short life came some financial struggle for him and his spouse. The pandemic had caused her to unfortunately lose her job of more than 10 years and he had to take the burden of ensuring that their future together could be maintained. He consistently worked throughout the pandemic, while still helping his wife Cecile file for unemployment to try to keep them financially afloat. Now with his passing, there is substantially less income coming to the household.

There will be some assistance but we don't know how long it will take as the pandemic has slowed down the process. His wife hasn't been able to work because of his passing and right now she doesn't even know how she's going to pay for bills.

But most importantly we would like to bury him at a place he loved so much. So we chose to bury him at the funeral home across the street from McCarran Airport, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Unfortunately the VA won't be able to cover all the costs as it isn't a veterans memorial. We don't want to bury him at the Veterans memorial in Boulder city because none of his life had been there and it is intensely difficult to get there. It is a 40 minute travel from the airport and just not a convenient spot. At least with Davis Funeral homes it is only a 4 minute drive from the airport and the planes that he loved so much can fly over him as his body rests.

So please, if Jose has in any was impacted your life in a positive way, we ask that you take the time to help us so that way we can ensure that even in death, that his soul can fly.

Thank you.
