Burrell's Aplastic Anemia Journey
Donation protected
As you know, Burrell is one of the kindest, most compassionate people on the planet. Unfortunately, we also know that bad things still happen to amazing people. In late October, Burrell went to the doctor for what we thought would be something simple, only to learn that he had very low blood counts. This led to months of blood and platelet transfusions and frustration with doctors over not knowing why.
We recently learned that he has Aplastic Anemia, a rare blood disorder. As of now, we do not know the cause. He has a great team of doctors at the University of Chicago Medical Center who are working on his treatment. This will be a long process with multiple long hospital stays, regulars trips back to hospital when he is home, isolation for both of us, and significant changes to our lifestyles. We are EXTREMELY grateful that we have health insurance and employers that allow us to work remotely. However, neither of us will be able to keep the schedules we did before, and insurance will not cover the entirety of the treatments. It will have a significant financial impact. We never thought we would be setting up a GoFundMe, and we don't assume that people will give, but we do want to provide the option. And we appreciate all of the support that is being given in every way!
