I am in need of support with January rent, starting health insurance after 3 years of being uninsured, and my car registration for 2026. (Photos with proof of costs are above if you swipe after featured photo).
I expected payment today for services already rendered, and at 9:00 AM this morning, I was informed those funds will not arrive today. They may arrive January 15th, or they may arrive later.
The organization leadership refuses to assist me with any alternatives, even a letter I can share with my leasing office explaining the matter so I can possibly have the late fee waived and eviction notice postponed.
(First photo is a summary of emails with org leadership. In an attempt to keep them anonymous, I am only sharing the summary.)
I am not surprised, as I have had financial problems as a result of this organization on two other occasions and given no courtesy advance notice.
In those other situations, I’ve been able to find other work opportunities last minute to take care of me and my family’s needs.
I am out of resilience for this one. I have no time or energy to find any other work before the 1st.
I use my car to drive to family’s homes for visits and care, their prenatal clinic appointments, and births. I cannot work without my car.
As a birth doula, I get paid via reimbursement when people use state insurance. I am still waiting for payment from a birth I assisted with in November, and I have used my income from postpartum work since then to pay for our other bills since we have been in a season where I’m the primary earner.
In good news, my partner just started his new job at the end of this month! However, we are waiting for his checks to start coming in.
We genuinely appreciate any donations as we have been very intentional about setting ourselves up for more financial security, and this will be a setback at the start of a new year.
