So here's the story.
My daughter, Starla, and her family had a small thriving beginning homestead in a place called Concow, CA. Frog, her husband, was living on it and developing it for them all to move up.
In Novemember of 2018, the Camp Fire (often recognized as the "Paradise Fire") raged through (don't know how else to describe it as it spread at the rate of 80 football fields a minute) and their years of hard work and close-to-the-finish-line status got totally, utterly burned out.
The community came to help and you all generously responded. If not for you all, they would not have made it. Truly.
That fire really impacted Frog and Starla on all sorts of levels. Frog had, literally, gotten out in the nick of time through a tunnel of fire.
So, through the PTSD, they came up with a plan to get back on their feet again and leave fire prone California for good, as they could see the writing on the wall.
They rented a small homestead up in another area of our county. They knew it was a risk, but hoped/gambled/prayed that they could last three years, get out of debt and move with enough funds to find a place that does not burn, has water and they could rebuild their dreams of being self sufficient.
Frog lived up there in Berry Creek full time. The boys went back and forth about 60% of their time up there, the other 40% in town. They started Permaculture projects- composting, trying different techniques to learn hands on. Kailyb partnered with his Dad to start a mushroom business. He loves growing so much, he's decided to make it his life's work after he finishes high school in Spring 2021. They grew gardens (although did not document them very well with pictures :) ), did tons of lactofermenting, dabbled in compost teas. You get the picture.

Things were looking good, they were investigating properties out of state, they were almost out of debt.
Then....
The winds came.
We got word down in Chico that Berry Creek was being evacuated because a fire that had started from the lightening storm in August had exploded due to ongoing high winds.
Starla and family got off the mountain in plenty of time, but felt like things would be OK.
The next morning we all learned that Berry Creek was gone.

So....
Here we are again. We know these are troubling times and that everyone is struggling. We humbly come with heavy hearts, a bit weary and sort of embarrassed to be asking again. But they want to leave as soon as possible, hopefully before year's end, so I am putting my ego aside and simply asking and being open to receive any help that the community can provide my family. I will miss them immeasurably, but understand. They are OVER it.
They will use the funds to survive financially in the short term and move out of state as soon as possible.
Also..if you have any ideas on places they can move to, new ideas, places you love are always appreciated. Always.
If you are able, and if you find it in your hearts to help this family again....please do so.
We thank you.
