burn recovery + ski return 19/20

Saylor, our epic mono skier and paralympic hopeful, was burned while riding an atv on June 31st. This injury has required multiple grafting surgeries and lengthy stays at the University of UT burn unit.  Her most recent graft is at a devastating 70% fail. We anticipate months of amniotic fluid injections to help her tissues heal, and potentially more surgery to close this burn on her upper leg. 

The hardest part has undoubtedly been ski, she lives and breathes to create winter speed and was very much looking forward to the upcoming season. Her motivation to heal as quickly as possible and get back out on the mountain is pretty high and she dedicates several hours of proactive focus on healing every day. This will not keep her down, just as nothing ever has. We still anticipate that come season she can at minimum begin to retrain a day or two a week and rebuild atrophy, but hope and pray for quick and miraculous healing this fall and that this season will be more like those in the past, maybe even some big races like world championships! 

Medical expenses hit financial capabilities pretty hard and especially make training and updated/customized gear needs extra challenging. Please help us keep this dream moving down the slopes and help relieve some financial pressure so we can focus on healing and getting back on the snow in 2019/20.  

We anticipate that the medical bills associated with her burn will cost our family $7,000 - $10,000 out of pocket (outside of insurance coverage) for the 2019 year.

Previous to the accident we anticipated that this upcoming ski season would require an update on her entire mono rig including a custom bucket to fit her growing size and speed capabilities (around $10,000) as well as typical seasonal training and travel fees (around $5,000). 

We work super hard and long to make these dreams happen and contribute a lot each year to her dream as a family. Every single dollar donated is greatly appreciated and helps keep this dream (and particularly this year healing) ALIVE!
