Dear Friends,
My name is Joycelyn Lee and I am the CEO of Burma Superstar, B Star and Eats restaurants on Clement Street in San Francisco. I want to share our story with you:
Table 23 is a big round table that sits in the center of Burma Superstar at the heart of our restaurant. It is the hub of employee activities. Normally, it seats 12 people, but during team meetings we move our chairs back to include twice as many. Table 23 is also where we huddle in preparation for service and where we end the night to share a family-style dinner and have a laugh before going home. This round table concept extends beyond Burma Superstar and into our sister restaurants, B Star and Eats, even though the table isn’t always round.
For our customers, Table 23 serves as a communal table, bringing strangers seated together in a shared experience of our family and food. Over the years, we've welcomed many loyal customers that have become part of the Burma Superstar family through repeat visits and sharing life stories. The same holds true for customers at all our restaurants on Clement Street.
We have been fortunate to have such a dedicated staff who have helped us grow from small local restaurants into destinations for global travelers. At every step of the way, they've worked harder and faster to provide the best experience for our customers.
COVID-19 is an uninvited guest in our world that has upended our ability to provide the best dining experience to customers. Sadly, it has also split apart our family. While we continue to navigate this pandemic, we had to make the devastating decision to let the majority of our staff at all three restaurants go.
Most staffers have families of their own and are now faced with the hardship of living without a regular income. The Burma Superstar Round Table Fund is for them, employees from all three of our restaurants who are not employed and in dire financial trouble. 100% of the funds raised will go towards their most basic needs (food, shelter, medical, etc.) during this crisis. It will be disbursed directly to them at the conclusion of this campaign.
We know that everyone is being impacted by this crisis. Thank you for giving whatever you can. We look forward to sitting together again and sharing a meal with our employees, customers and you at the round table.
