Burlison Family

I am writing on behalf of the Burlison family. Detra has been diagnosed with Large Cell Non Hodgkins Lymphoma and is scheduled for surgery this Friday. It has been a 2 year battle to diagnose her and this is just the beginning of her battle and journey. This beautiful family needs our help. Detra is a proud and amazing mother of 3. Her oldest son is in his first year of the military and is away right now. I know this has to be hard for him to not be near his family right now and I know Detra will want him to not be worrying about her. Her 2 nd oldest son is a sophomore at VHS where he is a straight A student who plays both football and baseball and was recently honored by his fellow teammates and coaches for his tremendous efforts as an academic athlete and is an all around great person on and off the field. Her youngest daughter Maya will be entering 6th grade and is a cheerleader and active in gymnastics as well. Detra works for the school district and has the summer off so money is already tight. She will not be able to return to work for at least 6 weeks. Her husband currently works 2 jobs, sometimes 20 hour days to provide for his family but will also need to take time off to help care for Detra and get her to and from appointments. The impact of all of this is and will be huge on this family. I have known Detra and her beautiful kids for a long time know. Detra would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it! She would be the first person to step up and offer help to anyone in a similar situation. She has helped my family a lot during our recent struggles after my husbands heart failure and transplant. I am asking for any help you can offer to this family.  The main needs right now are obviously financial support and help with groceries and gas. If you are able to donate here, it would mean the world to them right now! Gift cards can be dropped off at her house or mailed to them. 1833 Avenida Sevilla, Oceanside.  I am also going to be posting a Meal Train for them. They will need time to rest, relax and not worry about cooking and prepping meals. She has placed a cooler near her front door for drop offs. I will post the link here soon. Finally, with back to school time approaching I am hoping we can get some gift cards rallied up for the kids to do some back to school shopping and if any of you could help with donations for the huge expense of the kids sports (we all know how it adds up so quickly) please donate here. This family is a huge presence in our community-always helping others, volunteering their time to run the snack bars, carpooling everyone’s kids all over, and offering support, friendship and kindness wherever and whenever they can.
