My father recently passed away due to coronavirus related complications. I rode with him to the hospital on April 2nd to address his deteriorating condition and had no idea that would be the last time I share a moment with him .
The man I knew my entire life was hard-working, empathetic, and caring. He was always quick to put the needs of others before his in order to make those around him comfortable. He was a pillar of strength for our entire family.
For the past month my father has fought for his life in the hospital. He was put on a ventilator to assist with his breathing and fed through a gastro tube as sedatives left him unable to eat on his own.
Our family consistently kept faith that he would return to us but the prognosis continued to worsen as the virus took its tool on his body. About two weeks into his stay at the hospital, we were informed that he suffered a stroke that damaged a large portion of his brain leaving him severely impaired. The doctors did all they could to provide my father with the medicine at their disposal to improve his condition. Due to the extenuating circumstances our family was unable to visit my father in person but instead relied on updates over the phone regarding his status.
On May 6th, we received word from the doctor that his blood pressure dropped to an extremely low level and the doctors were unable to resuscitate him. It was the end to a long, strenuous battle. Knowing the hard working man my father was, I know he fought to the very end.
Our family must now begin to plan for his funeral and burial service within the next week. We understand these are trying times for many families and appreciate any support you can offer.
We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
