Burial Expenses for Robert Tretola

Hi friends,
I never thought I would ever have the need to set up a GoFundMe page and it breaks my heart for the reason I am doing so now.
My dad, Robert (Bobby) Tretola passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. He was born and raised in New Orleans- the city he loved more than any other. Some of you who visit this page might have played ball with him at Holy Cross High School there in the Lower 9th Ward. He had such fond memories of his youth and such a love for the city's vivacious spirit. Not to mention his incredible loyalties to his Saints and LSU Tigers.
My dad graduated LSU Medical School in 1980 and became a successful surgeon. During his career, he healed and saved many lives. He studied very hard to become the best physician that he could be in his field.
It is with deep heartache and sadness that I share with you that after he witnessed the destruction of his childhood home and the passing of his beloved parents- all in 2005- he began a downward spiral that he was never able to overcome. Over the last 13 years, he battled depression, prescription drug dependency, alcoholism, and mental illness.
My dad lost this battle.
Upon his death, my husband and I learned that he died deeply indebted and insolvent.
My wish and hope through this GoFundMe page is to take my dad home to New Orleans.
The funds raised will be used to pay the balance owed for his cremation- ($1,650 due by late November), his interment in the Tretola family tomb, and a service for family & friends to say goodbye, which will take place sometime next Spring 2019.
The most tragic aspect of his life over these last years was that my dad has two beautiful grandchildren- Audrey Rose (13 yrs.) and Mason Samuel (6yrs.)- who never got a chance to know their grandfather and he never got to know how amazing they truly are.
I would be deeply humbled and grateful for any donation no matter the size. I will be in charge of all donations and will put them to proper use, as mentioned.
