Help The Ortiz Family

Hi, my name is Louis Ortiz and I am one of Denise's children. I am starting this go fund me to help with her funeral and burial costs. Denise was one of the most caring, strong, outgoing and loving people that you would ever meet. She was a sister, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an aunt and a friend to many.

She was always there for everyone, especially her family and friends, unconditionally, no matter the situation. Sadly, we lost our mother to Covid-19, on the evening of August 21st, 2021.

My mother's last wish was to be buried and she always did so much for others, before herself, so we really want to fulfill that request.

On July 29th, 2021, Denise was admitted to the hospital because she was having breathing issues. It was recommended that she take a Covid-19 test, she did test positive. At that time, my wife, children and I were in Maryland because her mother had passed away in early July. We were attending her celebration of life when we found out my mom was hospitalized.

At first, our mom was on an oxygen machine and doing okay. Her oxygen levels were low, but she was improving day by day. She was fighting a slow battle to come back home. There was a day where her oxygen level was great and then all of a sudden she couldn't breathe. She was on one-hundred percent oxygen and it still wasn't enough. The doctors eventually had to put her on a ventilator. She was on the ventilator for a few days and just couldn't keep her oxygen up to a good level. Unfortunately, she had a heart attack while on the ventilator and there was nothing more the doctors could do.

Denise fought so very hard for a little over three weeks and just couldn't fight anymore. She was always so hopeful and positive, even in the situation she was in. Before she went on the ventilator she told us all that she loved us all her life and to stay strong and pray. We lost a very important person to us. We weren't able to visit her in the hospital because of Covid-19, we made the best out of phone calls and video chats. We were able to be with her and comfort her while she passed.
