Burial Expense - Sheliah Mooney

Donation protected
Shelia Mooney, a friend and lifelong resident of Amarillo, Texas, suffered a massive heart attack on February 25, 2017.  After more than a week in CICU at BSA Hospital, the doctors determined that she had been deprived of oxygen for too long and that her brain is severely compromised.  Shelia has been taken off of life support and her body is presently shutting down.

She was never married, has no children, and her only relative, a brother, has refused to take responsibility.

She has no life insurance, no savings, and just enough physical assets that causes her to be disqualified for funeral/burial benefits from the County or State.

My name is Larry Boyer and I live in Amarillo Texas.  I have started this Go Fund Me campaign because my wife, Anne Boyer, along with our dear friend Sarah Gray, worked with Sheilah Mooney at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Amarillo for many years.  When Sheilah suffered a massive heart attack in late February, we soon learned she didn't have any burial pre-need planning and no money to pay for her burial.  The local Funeral Home in Amarillo, Lagrone-Blackburn-Shaw, was the only mortuary in town who would agree to take her body upon her death and would work with us to provide appropriate services for disposition of her remains.  We fouind that her parents had provided a burial plot at a local cemetery, but nothing else was planned or funded.  Lagrone-Blackburn-Shaw agreed to provide cremation services for a much reduced price of $2,060.  The cemetery charges $395 for opening and closing of the grave, and $195 for the required outer container that the urn will be placed within for burial.  The total amount needed to cover all expenses is $2650.  We set the goal for this campaign at $2,500 figuring that we would cover the remaining $150 ourselves.  Now that the cremation has been conducted, the memorial service will be held on March 23rd, and we hope to have the burial immediately following the memorial service.  My intent is to withdraw the funds collected in the campaign and use them to pay the funeral home and the cemetery.  In order to show a paper-trail of the transactions I intend to deposit the funds into my personal checking account than then write checks to the funeral home and the cemetery.  Although we do not expect that there will be any funds left over after all payments have been made, if there are, we will use them to pay for a grave marker after the grave has been closed.

Dying a solitary death and then not having the means to have a decent Christian burial is one of the saddest things imaginable.  Your contribution, no matter how small, can help to bring dignity back to this fine lady.

Thank you, in advance, for your contribution.
