Burial for Leonard Young and Help for Gina

Leonard Raymond Young passed peacefully in his sleep on November 1, 2020 at 7:45 AM after almost a full year of fighting for his life in medical care.

Just before Thanksgiving, 2019, Leonard had a heart attack and entered the hospital. He had heart surgery there, followed by a long series of complications and setbacks. He overcame so many things this past year, including congestive heart failure, pneumonia, kidney failure, respiratory failure, sepsis, not being able to speak or swallow, mini strokes, and more, all whilst not being allowed to have visitors from March on because of COVID. He fought hard, proving what a strong and loving man he was as he tried to get to a place where he would be allowed to return home to his family, whom he missed so much and repeatedly said he wished he could be home with. He made it clear through his actions and his words that God and his family were the most important things in his life.

Leonard was born in Long Beach, California on December 15, 1955 to Georgia May and Julius Raymond Young. He was a beloved husband, father of 6, and friend, and was truly a servant of all. He loved the Lord most of all and was a godly example to everyone around him.

Leonard's coworkers describe him as a wonderful leader, a true team player, and someone who always did a job to the best of his ability with a smile on his face as he brought out the best in those around him.

He was kind, gentle, generous, and always looking out for and caring for others in a million tiny, quiet ways, often behind the scenes. He took time to encourage and build others up. He was creative and loved photography, videography, and music. He played the guitar and the piano, often for his church as well as at home, where he filled the house with music.

He is deeply missed by his family, friends, and those who knew him.

This page is being set up by his daughter, Erin, on behalf of his wife, Gina. Leonard did not have life insurance and his family was unprepared for the financial burden of his burial. Contributions given here will be gratefully used to pay the mortuary and to help Leonard's wife, Gina, with living expenses as she and the children still living at home with her readjust. Gina is a schoolteacher.
