Being pregnant with twins is something many dream of. When we found out we were obviously shocked but so excited! As the weeks passed, we eagerly began prepping as risk of miscarriage went down more and more and things were looking great. Our twins shared a placenta and were identical twins. This carries a risk of TTTS, a condition where one baby is getting very little vascular supplies and the other is receiving too much. While we knew there was a small risk this could impact our pregnancy, we never imagined we would be the ones. I went into a routine ob appointment and due to twins heartbeats being tricky to detect she had an ultrasound machine ready to quickly check heartbeats. Baby A looked wonderful and had a strong heartbeat, but baby b was barely moving and had a low fetal heart rate. Being an ob visit there wasn't a ton of time to check too much into things but she suspected TTTS and the next day I saw my maternal fetal medicine doctor to check more into it. We never could imagine that after just a few minutes of what should have been a longer scan we would be told there were no heartbeats and that we had lost BOTH our babies. We also were told that our babies were girls at this point and we named them Amelia Joy James and Caroline Hope James. We are so shocked and saddened. They made it to almost 17 weeks and will be delivered next week. We are hoping to have a photographer there to capture pictures after they are born so we can make a special photo album for close friends and family to view as a sort of memorial. They are our children, however small, and we are properly burying them. The average cost of burial is around 1500 for babies. Not expecting all of this, we are not financially prepared.
