Fred's Fight to Live

Please help us prolong the life of a great man named Fred. Fred was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, which is a type of blood cancer that affects many parts of the body, including the bones. Today, Multiple Myeloma is considered incurable, but many patients have been able to receive bone marrow transplants using their own stem cells in order to prolong their life for ten or more years. Fortunately, Fred’s cancer was caught in enough time to allow him to be eligible for this procedure, and he has begun chemo to prepare his body. Unfortunately, as it is in many cancer situations, most of the cost associated with chemo treatment is covered however the procedure is NOT!!  A bone marrow transplant is $250,000 and just the shot that he has to recieve is $22,000. With that being said, we have decided to reach out to others in hopes that you may be able to help us raise the money to prolong Fred’s life. For those of you who might be wondering who Fred is let me tell you a little about him:

Fred is a family man.
He is the son of two loving parents that he has always respected. He is the best friend and brother to his only sibling, Madeline. He is Christal’s husband of 33 years and her main source of humorous love and aggravation. He is a father to Shane, a son whose time was short, but always remembered. He is also a father to five other children. There is Melissa, his oldest daughter, and shadow. Then, there is Tara the rebel that he adopted and raised as his own. Next, is Leslie his bedside cheerleader and replica of his sister and after her is Amanda so sweet and so shy. Finally, there is Dakota, his son, who brought with him extra laughter and a much needed guy vote when Fred was up against so many girls. Today, Fred is also an uncle and most importantly a grandfather to children who love him for the simplest of things like the cards he sends, the Legos he builds, the hugs he gives, the silly faces he makes and most of all the loud way he snores like a tug boat.

Fred is brave man and a selfless man.
He served 6 years with the Navy during Vietnam and received 4 medals that he is very proud of. He has always lived his life giving to anyone he could anywhere he could. His most dedicated donations were given every 16 weeks when he would visit the blood center to donate blood and platelets. For Fred, this was his way of giving to others when he didn’t always have the money to do so. Today, when you ask Fred what one of the greatest things that he struggles with when it comes to having multiple myeloma he will tell you “the fact that I can no longer donate blood for others who need it”. Out of all his selfless acts, the one that will be most remembered came when he was asked if he would be willing to let his family and friends ask for donations to help with his bone marrow transplant.  Fred’s response was “I will be open to others giving to me only if we give back!” Therefore, his family has agreed to honor his wishes by having a benefit to raise money for cancer research and children with cancer after his chemo treatments have been completed.

Fred is a joyous man.
He is a free spirit who never believes in taking life too seriously. He is a light when you have had the hardest of days and he believes in others when they may not always believe in themselves.    He is kind and loving and most of all, hilarious. In fact, Fred being hilarious is his greatest trait. He thrives on making people laugh and never misses a moment to be a clown even while going through chemo on a weekly basis. Almost anybody who has ever met him can usually recall some corny joke or playful prank that he may have played on them at some time.

Today Fred is also a man in need.
He is in need for the help of others to continue to live for ten or more years because a lot can happen in that time. For instance, Fred can see his son graduate from medical school. Fred can see his daughter get married. Fred can watch his children and grandchildren grow. Fred can enjoy his upcoming retirement that he worked so hard to earn. Fred can continue to spread laughter and joy. Fred can continue to give to others. But most of all, with the help of continuous research and ever growing technology, Fred can possibly see someone discover a cure for Multiple Myeloma. So please if you are able to help we will forever be grateful! There is no donation too small even if you are just simply sharing Fred’s story.  In doing this you will not only be helping give life to a man you may now know as Fred but to a man that we call our Hero, our Dad, and our Paw Paw!
