Hi! My name is Carolyn and I have been the librarian at a Chicago Public School for over 10 years. Our library is in desperate need of a makeover. Our bookshelves are broken and unsafe and there is no space or furniture for students to practice reading.
Our library mission advocates for a culturally responsive space that actively engages diverse learning and provides a space of comfort and confidence.
Bookshelves at the student level will allow students to independently browse. Mobile shelves will allow movement and flexibility for students with diverse needs (i.e. students in wheelchairs). The library must also promote the importance of independent reading. Providing benches and modular seating will invite our students to sit and read for pleasure.
- Please help us make our library a sanctuary for students and resources by providing funds for more shelving and flexible seating. The photo attached is a vision of what we are working to create in our library space. Our library vision costs over $200,000. Please consider helping us reach our goal. We are hoping to raise $50,000 of the cost through your donations.
