Another Burbank neighbor, Luis Olvera, was kidnapped by ICE on Tuesday June 23rd at 7:00 in the morning while he was walking the family dog Mimi right outside of his apartment building. Luis has lived in the U.S. for 38 years. He was brought here from Mexico at only 8 years old. Luis and his partner have 2 young sons and a stepson. Their small children attend BUSD elementary school. Luis is a devoted dad, a loving partner, and a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan! He works in the hospitality industry. His friends say he is exceptionally kind, often giving water and donations to community members who are struggling, and teaching his kids to "love thy neighbor." ICE has imprisoned Luis in the Adelanto detention camp. Reports from detained people there include abuse by guards, appalling lack of medical care, inedible food, and punishment for speaking out. Adelanto is run by the for-profit Geo Group, which made more than $250 million in profit in 2025, a 700% increase from the previous year. Groups of Detainees at Geo immigration prisons have been on hunger strikes to protest the conditions at Adelanto and at Delaney Hall in New Jersey. Luis’ family has immediate financial and other needs. Please donate to support them for rent, food, gas and legal expenses.
