Please Help My Family Stay Together

My name is Alex, and this fundraiser is for my momma, Melissa.

My mom has been a high-school teacher my entire life, and has always been a rock for everyone that has ever had the pleasure of meeting her. She was diagnosed with severe, end-stage cancer (peritoneal malignant ascites) in June 2020, just as COVID first hit, and has been dealing with so much of this fight alone. She took countless rounds of chemo with constant complications, and despite it seemingly starting to work, her pain and cancer have come back with a vengeance. She is currently at home under palliative/hospice care surrounded by friends and family.

I love my mom more than anything, and what would give her the greatest peace in this dark time is security—for us, for her, and for us as a family. Us falling apart is her greatest worry, and one that is most likely without support. The threat of eviction is a heavy burden and is simply yet another worry my mom does not need.

My momma is unable to work, and both I and my dad are unable to work as we take care of her and the household. Any and all support is appreciated immensely—thank you so, so much.

I’m far from a perfect person, but almost all, if not every goodness I have to offer is at least in part by my momma’s doing—every memory I have is of her kindness, generosity, and love, whether it was getting to share in her writing process, starting my own blog to align with hers, completing projects with her help and guidance—or countless other moments of adoration and grace.

I love her so much, not for what she does, but what she is—beyond any and everything she did and does for me, her very presence is synonymous with comfort, support, and love for so many.
