Bunny’s fight for life

Hello friends. I am blessed to live in the small community of Chincoteague VA, where everyone looks out and takes care of each other. I have met some amazing people this past year along with their amazing pets. One of these people has been Jessica Williamson and her Dad, Jim Eisenhart. They have the sweetest little dog. Everyone knows, or has seen Bunny. Despite her teacup size, she’s hard to miss. Bunny can be seen daily riding in Jim’s shoulder bag on the bicycle or, walking along Main Street. Rain or shine, Bunny loves her outdoor time and has made friends with everyone she approaches. Except for yesterday. On Sunday, March 7th Jim walked Bunny down their street and encountered two large dogs, who attacked her and injured Jim in an effort to rescue her from their tug-o-war grip. By the grace of God he was able to get her away from the two dogs but the damage done to her 2-1/2 pound body was devastating. Jim was bitten in several places but he will recover.
Bunny was taken to an emergency Vet in Salisbury MD but her prognosis was not good. She has puncture wounds and lacerations all over her tiny body. Her jaw was dislocated, crushed and torn apart, requiring her to need facial reconstruction surgery .
The ER vet is only open at night for emergencies. They are not a full time hospital facility. Jessica and Jim are having to drive back to Salisbury to pick Bunny up, and bring her to a daytime hospital in Pocomoke MD, because Bunny needs 24 hour care, as she is still in critical condition. They will need to do this for as long as it takes for Bunny to be stable enough in order to be taken to York, PA to the reconstructive dental and facial surgery. This is the stuff nightmares are made of, and our hearts are breaking for Jessica, Jim and Bunny.
My friends are struggling to get through this horrific experience.
Their vet bills are projected to upwards of $20,000 at this point. I can’t fathom, as a dog owner myself, how to even process this part. How do you put a price on a family members life? Bunny is a young bouncy member of the family and community.
I am starting this page for Jessica and Jim so they don’t have to ever make a decision on the price of Bunny’s life. We all want to see that little teacup walk by again. We want to see Jim light up when he is with Bunny. I want Jessica to have some assurance that her entire life is not about to unravel financially.
There are good people in the world. I know it. I want my friends to know that also.
Bless all of you. Anything you can do to help.
