Hi, my name is Watson and I am kindly asking you for a donation to help me for the ongoing treatment and surgeries necessary to save the life of our beloved bunny Pepper.
He is 3 years old, he has a very lovely personality but he had medical issues all his life. He likes to play, is curious, loving, funny, we love him so so much, is part of our family and we will try very hard to make his life pain free.
As we have descovered later, after so many vet visits and investigations, and wrong diagnostics, he has deformed front teeth, very elongated roots and very severe dental desease for all the teeth. Multiple teeth have been removed through multiple surgeries but the pain remain, abscesses are contiuously forming and we do imense work every day to clean the afected area.
Because the rabbits have teeth that grow all their life, the remaining teeth have to be removed also through other complicated surgeries.
From very complicated surgeries he had a fractured jaw and is recovering slowly and become happier every day . He is such a strong bunny to endure so much stress, pain and surgeries. We as humans, could not do it without complaining but this bunny is an inspiration for us, is a fighter, is not complainig, is trusting us and is allowing us to clean his wounds every day, so he needs our supprt as much as we can.
Every vet told us to give up on him, but we did not have the heart to do that. I cannot describe the pain we felt and the hopelessness. We looked at his face and he was begging us for help. We had to do this. We still have hope that with some more surgeries he will be at least pain and abscesses free.
We already seringe feed him every day with homemade green leaves paste. We need to make sure that he has all the nutrients he needs for the recovery.
We don't want to give up now! He fought every time. He is a fighter! He wants to live! He is so young and is so unfortunate to have this painful life . Is very difficult to financially support the ongoing treatment, medicines and the next surgeries, so we humble ask you if you can help for this cause, please.
He does not deserve this severe illness and I will never understand why this happened. We will give up everything before we give up our baby bunny's life.
We have given every penny possible to save our baby bunny. We have paid already for hospitalisation more than £7000. And is not over yet.
He needs more investigations and more surgeries.
Our family needs all the help and prayers we can get right now. I am not comfortable posting photos of his condition right now but is the only way to show you the pain that he is going through. We do not typically ask for financial assistance. However, this is a cry out solely for our bunny's life more than a cry for money itself.
100% of donations are going towards his surgeries, treatment, hospital stays, MRI, legal matters, etc. All contributions, prayers, thoughts, etc are appreciated and solely in the best interest of our bunny.
His life matter to us so much! He wants a happy life! Please help!
I will give you some of the recommendations we have received from the hospital discharge instructions after the last surgery which was on 30Nov 2022:
"Clinical Findings:
Dental/abscess findings: Pepper was quite head-shy during his clinical exam, which means that he was very sensitive to having his head touched or manipulated in any way. This is not normal, as most rabbits tolerate having their heads touched as part of a routine physical exam quite well. He was particularly reactive on palpation of the abscesses located along his chin. Handling of his face and jaw was limited, as we did not want to cause any undue pain as part of our exam. We do think the abscesses and jaw bone remodelling is painful for Pepper, which accounts for him not wanting us to palpate these areas.
The surgical wound on the right side of his face has healed over completely. There are still abscesses located around the area. The marsupialisation (surgically created hole) on the left side of his face has also sealed over, and we were unable to effectively flush or clean that wound.
An examination of his cheek teeth revealed that there was some pus in his mouth on the lower left side, and his teeth are much more worn than we would expect for a rabbit of his age, due to the degree of his dental disease.
Further Information:
From assessment this week, we feel that the staged management of Pepper's dental disease is unfortunately requiring another stage. The severity of Pepper's dental disease has meant that the first surgery focussed mostly on his left side, the second surgery on the right side. The multiple abscesses extending down Pepper's chin are not able to be left, as these will just continue to get bigger and cause Pepper more discomfort.
At this stage we feel that there are three options for Pepper.
1. Ideally we would repeat a computed tomography scan to re-evaluate Pepper's advanced dental disease, to allow us to plan for a third surgery. We feel that his current abscesses warrant surgical removal. These abscesses are not suitable for a conscious 'lance and drain' approach for a few reasons. The first is the chains of abscesses are quite extensive, and draining them would likely require multiple incisions which would be painful for Pepper. In rabbits, pus tends to be very thick and is not easily removed by flushing or squeezing.
It is very unfortunate that Pepper's dental disease is so severe and involves so many different areas. This is why he has been a very challenging case. This surgery would likely be quite intensive, similarly to Pepper's previous two surgeries.
2. Given the ongoing nature of Pepper's dental disease and dental abscessation, it would be an appropriate time to consider humane euthanasia. Although this may be upsetting to consider given Pepper's young age, we feel that his welfare and quality of life are at risk of being compromised. We also appreciate the high cost of having Pepper undergo repeated extensive surgeries. These procedures and associated hospitalization are likely also quite stressful for Pepper. It would be unfair to Pepper to leave him as he is now with all of his abscesses.
3. The third option is not one we would really recommend, which is palliative care, e.g. continue all medications until Pepper starts feeling sad, with reduced appetite and energy levels. The reason we do not recommend this is because it will not cure Pepper and he instead will continue to deteriorate over time.
If you would like to consider further surgical treatment for Pepper, we would plan for this in January."
Unfortunately we did not have the money necessary for another surgery. We still continue the treatment at home as long as we can but he still needs surgical treatment.
His life matter! He is small and is only a bunny but the love for him and from him is so precious. We love him so much! He wants a happy life! Please help us save him!
