Let's finish building one of the only libraries in the Northern part of Ghana.
We need your help to complete our fundraising to bring the best possible educational resources to the village.
Bunbong is a small community located in northern Ghana in one of the least developed areas of the country. Education, healthcare and infrastructure are all struggling and the people have one of the lowest literacy rates in the country. However the community is optimistic and hopeful for the future. Initiating public projects such as libraries is one step towards greater education and positive development in the village.
"Education is the key to everything. My vision for the library space is to create an edifice and environment that frees the mind and sows the seeds that would cultivate the mind’s ability to soar. A place of information that meets the development needs of the personality and serve to achieve life’s aspirations." - Chief Dawuni
LIBRARY DESIGN
The design of the library is inspired by direct community input, local materials and vernacular building traditions.
The design incorporates sustainable design principles such as natural materials, natural ventilation, natural daylighting and community involvement. The building is a round and inviting space built primarily out of local earth and wood.
We plan on continuing to make the design and building process a learning event through the open exchange of cultural ideas and building techniques
HELP BRING THE LIBRARY TO LIFE
We have already completed the major structure of the library but we need funds to enable the project to reach its full potential and have the greatest postivie impact on the communuty and future of the children. We need your help to reach our goal of $20,000.
This will cover the remaining construction and material costs and ensure that we can achieve the best results with the people of Bunbong. By meeting this goal we will be able to complete construction of the library by April.
Every dollar helps! Each contribution goes a long way towards making the library a success.
