Join Elgin's SupportArmy! Brain aneurysm to Goal!
Wednesday the 18th of August, 2021 Elgin, a 15 year old Varsity Field Hockey Goalie, took a knee on the field because she was dizzy and feeling hot. So started the journey from vivacious, tough, sassy normal teenager to someone in the fight for their very life. A CT scan identified hemorrhaging on the left side of her brain caused by a ruptured rare mycotic aneurysm. Suddenly unable to speak or move anything on her right side, she was airlifted to a top-notch hospital where they performed brain surgery to remove the aneurysm.
The goalie mentality is powerful and E has been motivated, determined, and brave. Communicating with smiles, facial expressions, nods, and thumbs up with her left hand, she is making it clear that her goal is full recovery!
Unfortunately, the road ahead for both E and her family is long, uncertain, and has lots of pot holes along the way.
The outpouring of support from family, friends, teammates, coaches, teachers, nurses, doctors, and acquaintances has been amazing. If you would like to help financially (for medical care, lodging and parking fees near the hospital and rehab center for the family, etc...) please consider donating on this site. Thank you for being a member of Elgin's Support Army!
