Buna High School Robotics
The small town of Buna, Texas has had a VEX robotics team for only 4 years. Functioning on a limited budget, we have advanced for the first time to the National Vex Competition in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We had 6 robotics students across 2 teams who have qualified for this prestigious competition along with 3 adult sponsors, but now we have had a third team quilify. This raised our student count to 10. The tournament has around 200 teams competing and is played over a 3 day period. This trip, if we raise enough funds to go, is a huge endeaver for our small community, and we plan on representing our town proudly on this trip.
Why we need financial help.
Registration.
Registration alone is $500 per team. We have 3 teams, putting the cost of this alone over our budget given to us from our school.
Transportation.
This trip is going to be very costly, and having already extinguised our limited school budget for parts to build our robots out of, we are going to need help. It is a 15 hour drive from Buna, Texas to Council Bluffs, Iowa. This alone provides us with a large transportation cost.
Lodging.
For this trip we will need to stay 5 nights in a hotel. We understand that on our budget we will need to stay in the cheaper end hotels, but even by doing so our hotel cost is still a large expense.
Parts.
As said earlier, we have been participating in VEX robotics for 4 years. Almost all of our construction and electronic parts are original from our first year. With such a difficult tournament approaching we would need to purchase some new, more reliable parts to ensure that we will compete to the best of our ability without the worry of hardware failure.
Food.
Everyone has to eat. Our teams consist of 5 teenage boys and one teenage girl. Along with our hard work and countless hours spent in a vehicle on our journey there and back we will eventually get hungry. Over this 6 day, 5 night, trip the food cost will accumulate very rapidly.
