Bumble Bee Free Library (BBFL) was launched in 2013 in Nonthaburi, Thailand to address a need for quality reading materials for children. Library services in Thailand are very limited and most facilities charge membership fees making them inaccessible for many families. BBFL's free membership has made the library a gathering place to read, learn and participate in fun activities for the local children. The library is truly a place that we are all very proud to have available to the community.
BBFL currently has over 4,700 English language books (mostly donated from expats), over 2,100 Thai language books and over 300 books in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Khmer, Spanish, French and other languages. The BBFL branch at the Home for the Destitute in Pakkred has over 500 Thai language books and a daily newspaper available to their residents.
BBFL is run totally by volunteers but relies on donations to cover operating expenses of approximately $1,000/month for rent, utilities and supplies as well as book purchases.
Your donation helps us raise awareness of our overall goals: (1) making the library and its community activities available to the local Thai and expat communities, (2) fostering expanded interaction between the Thai community & expats and (3) growing our library of available books to help others "Learn to Read and Read to Learn”.
This year's additions of the "Pantry of Happiness” open access food pantry and the first Little Free Library in Nonthaburi during these challenging times adds more dimensions to BBFL’s outreach initiatives. These great programs and BBFL’s other community programs wouldn’t be possible without amazing donors such as you! Thank you for your support!
