Our story
Many people face bullying, for any reason, body shape, size, height, heritage, race, etc. Bullying at times is disguised as a joke, never knowing what circumstance an individual is in.
Our story is based on a true story, one that many face but few tell.
Our story is centered around a troubled teenager who struggles to find the balance between doing the right thing and standing up for himself.
Why am I doing this
As a kid growing up NY, I was always very different from everyone, and for reasons I didn’t understand at the time, I used to constantly be bullied.
Even had gotten to points where I’ve been beaten up, gotten black eyes and even had an adult stand behind with a rod and tell their kid to beat me.
I was lucky I had such a supportive family that helped me through this, and provided me with the love and support I needed, but many people don’t, which I realized as I’ve known students personally who suicided due to situations like this. And sometimes they just feel no one cares or understands.
This is my attempt to create that light for those going through this or possibly even prevent it by spreading awareness throughout certain environments.
Our mission
Our mission is to spread awareness throughout all audiences, parents, children, teachers, workplaces.
Though the story centers around bullying in peers, it also has aspects of parent relationships and is applicable in work places as well.
How
We plan to spread awareness through our story as a narrative based on the real life experiences growing up in NY.
In addition to that we plan on creating a documentary after the short film, featuring teachers that helped me when I was a kid, health professionals talking about the effects bullying has on a kids mental health, and what parents/teachers can do to make their kids trust them more and overcome any situation going on with them.
We plan to share this within schools, on social media and within festivals.
Why as a film and not something else?
Films have a unique way of creating impact and change. Films appeal to our pathos (emotions).
This is EXTREMELY powerful, because it causes a shift in thinking subconsciously.
It causes people to realize something through a narrative, which you could never tell them. Films have a huge reach, since it is easily one of the MOST impactful forms of media there is, whether in its ability to be shared, or its appeal to emotion. People want to watch films because it is a form of ENTERTAINMENT.
Just think about how young kids start using iphones, and how fast high schoolers share something in their school.
What we plan to do with the funding
As you must have guessed creating a film is expensive, whether it is pre production, production or post production.
As a filmmaker myself, I plan to put my blood, sweat and tears into this project, because if I can even save one life, or improve one life all this will be more than worth it, and I truly believe this will change the way bullying is dealt with in todays society.
We plan to use the majority of the money on equipment/camera/gear and rentals necessary to make a movie like production that students and teachers would be interested in seeing.
Then post production, such as editing, color grading, sound design.
And with any extra money we may possibly get we plan to use it to expand our production, locations and our reach to make a better quality film that more people will want to see.
Possibly share around high schools, colleges, and much more.
