Bulldoze and Rebuild our Home updates
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gwen.
We recently lost our home and everything in it including my 2 cats and beautiful Macaw to a house fire. We got out of the house in our pyjamas. The damage to our home is so extensive, it will have to be bulldozed.
We were fully insured paying the high premium the insurance company requested. We had insurance for everything from the car to the house with the insurance company and been faithful to them for over many, many years. (30+ years).
The insurance company has given us their decision to our claim. "NO"
When the fire first happened, we were offered to have a go fund me page set up. We didn't want to do this due to our pride and feeling we would get our insurance. We still feel uncomfortable in sitting up a "go fund me" but we need help.
We are looking at using our superannuation to demolish and rebuild. This amount of superannuation we have will still not cover all costs of this project and legal fees.
My husband and I are senior aged (74 and 65) and were looking at retiring soon. This now won't happen.
This fire was lit intentionally by a family member who has mental health issues and at the time intending suicide by douching himself and our granny flat in fuel. He did not die but is now in custody awaiting trial for arson and animal cruelty. No mental health help for him!
I cannot give any further information than what I have given above due to the ongoing court cases with this matter. I appreciate your understanding the privacy of the situation.
The "Loop holes" the insurance company are using, "The fire was lit intentionally by a family member who lived on the property". They have taken all of our statements and words out of context to justify their decision. Also one who lit the fire had a criminal history, most of which I was and still am unaware of. The insurance company have said the policy was breached because we had not informed them of him living on the premises.
They have not believed when I have said he was on the property without our permission. He was virtually a squatter.
As I have suffered DV and elder abuse, it has been difficult to have him vacate.
We will be appealing their decision. This is going to take time and money we don't have.
With this fund raising, I would like to keep the contact information of donators so we can repay what they donate if we do win our appeal.
