Hi everyone, I am Veronika, an Indonesian educator and entrepreneur passionate about innovation within education. I was not born a teacher, but very quickly, after working with special children and working in one of Bali’s most prestigious and innovative schools, I knew this was my life purpose.
In 2011, I was given the opportunity to start The Spring School, it was not easy back then either, but with the help of Ibu Lee and Daniel Aaron and other mentors I was able gain the empowerment to feel capable to JUST DO IT. Ever since, I feel nothing but commitment and gratitude, I have no doubt The Spring School is my way to give back to my community.
The Spring School is a small but very innovative school in the center of Ubud with 35 students ages 2-6 years, 11 local staff and a community of around 70 parents. Our students and parents are both locals and foreigners and we have designed an inclusive business model that allows tuition to vary according to the family’s acquisition power.
Our school has different programming and values to most academic institutions in Bali. Our core value is teaching the children at a young age to be emotionally intelligent, to express their feelings and acknowledge their peers’ feelings too, to become a problem solvers and to be involved in the process of learning.
We also incentivize experiential learning, we have a “project” room where children can learn by doing and build things with recycled materials. Sustainability and cultural inclusiveness are also values of ours, children meditate daily, play local Angklung and learn English.
At The Spring School we don’t only educate our students. We have designed a program in which the teachers and the parents are also constantly learning and receiving feedback from teachers training to monthly parent meetups.
In our school, our teachers are all local and the majority women and they are the heart and soul of our operation. We empower our teachers by providing a safe space to guide them on how to navigate personal problems, by sharing groups to improve their mental health and by providing them the right tools to educate themselves, the children and their parents.
Why is The Spring School Moving?
At the beginning of 2019, I received the news from my landlord that he wouldn’t be renewing our lease because he wanted to renovate the school grounds into accommodation, since the reality of Ubud is that tourism is a lot more profitable than getting rent from a school teacher.
After this, I knew this couldn’t be the end of The Spring School and I started looking for a new place where to move.
To my surprise, I got lucky, I found a piece of land (500 meters) in Sayan for lease. With some savings and help of some people I did all the legalities and paperwork and signed the lease as of May 2019 to start building the new school, I even got one of the parents to donate the design of the new building!
This excitement quickly turned into a concern once I realized how expensive this move would be. It will cost us a total of 800 million to build the new school, equip it and move by mid 2020.
Even though I see this move as an opportunity to improve the infrastructure and finally have our own space, it came so suddenly that I had no time to prepare financially to assume all of these costs. This is why the Spring School community and I need your help!
What do we need and how does this impact?
In total, we are looking to raise 800 million IDR.
500 million will go to the construction of the school in a speedy timeline of 4 months
250 million to equip the school
50 million to cover other expenses related to moving locations like legal, moving truck etc..
Any donation is welcomed! In this crowdfunding campaign we are receiving donations from $5 USD
ALL donors will receive a Virtual Thank You card by the children and your name will be engraved in a donor tile at the new school.
Apart from this, we also need in kind donations and volunteers, if you want to get involved, beyond donating to this campaign, please contact us at [email redacted]

A larger community behind the Spring School
Meet our community:
“The Spring School for me is like family, Veronika and the teachers not only take care of Dru while I work but they also teach me how to be a better mother. I never miss a parent training because of this”
Ibu Uni, Mother of Dru
“The Spring School and Ibu Veronika have empowered me to be a great teacher, mother and wife. The learnings I get in the school I apply at home. I love coming to class, is a safe space for me to disconnect from my problems, learn, work on myself and give back”.
Ibu Eka, Art Teacher
Tourists and foreigners in Bali are indirectly affecting the local community in so many ways like displacing schools to prioritize tourism. I met Veronika in an impact event and I knew I had to help her and The Spring School. It is my duty as an expat living in Bali to give back to local entrepreneurs like Veronika who have such an impactful influence in education and the future generations that will shape what Bali will become.”

"OUR DREAM IS NOT ONLY TO BUILD A SPACE, BUT TO CONTINUE TO EMPOWER A COMMUNITY OF CHILDREN, PARENTS AND TEACHERS, SUPPORT US!"
