Hockey has been part of the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s identity for decades. What began as a club team in 1979 grew into a nationally recognized program, eventually reaching NCAA Division I and helping establish Huntsville as the “Hockey Capital of the South.”

In 2018, UAH hockey returned to its club roots. Since then, UAH Club Hockey has provided students with the opportunity to compete, represent their university, and continue the Chargers’ proud hockey tradition.

Today, our student-run club team is working to build on that legacy. We are committed to developing a competitive program, creating opportunities for current and future students, and keeping hockey alive at UAH.

Running a college hockey team comes with significant expenses, including ice time, league fees, officials, equipment, travel, and game-day operations. As a student-run organization, we rely on player dues, fundraising, sponsorships, and community support to keep our program moving forward.
