Hi, I’m Ann founder and sole operator of Midlothian Rescue & Rehabilitation . The rescue is based in Midlothian but accepts admissions from across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Scottish Borders and beyond!

Since starting in October 2025 my home has become a place of hope for sick, injured and orphaned hedgehogs.

In just a few months, I’ve rescued 78 hedgehogs. Sadly, not every little life can be saved, but many have recovered, returned to the wild, and some have even gone on to raise families of their own. Every one of them has been loved and given the chance they deserved.

The rescue currently runs from inside my home. My spare rooms have become hospital wards, my washing machine never stops, and the house is filled with the sounds—and smells—of wildlife care. I wouldn’t change what I do for the world, but it’s no longer sustainable. Demand has exceeded my expectations and so I am looking to expand capacity which is not possible within the confines of my own home.

My dream is to convert my garage into a dedicated hedgehog rescue—a warm, clean, safe space where I can continue helping hundreds of hedgehogs for years to come. It will mean better care for the animals, more room for emergency admissions, and my family can finally have their home back too.

Having the rescue in the garage also provides the means for volunteers to come and go as they are able & their help will be invaluable in helping the patients, when I am out at my 9-5 job.

It could also be used for educational purposes aimed at improving awareness and sharing best practices.

I’m asking for your help to make that dream a reality.

Whether you can donate £2 or £200, gift building materials, lend tools, or volunteer your skills, every act of kindness brings us one step closer to creating a rescue these amazing little creatures deserve.

Every pound will go directly towards insulation, plasterboard, flooring, cupboards, worktops, lighting, shelving and purpose-built hospital accommodation for the hedgehogs.

Together, we can build something truly special—a place where countless injured and vulnerable hedgehogs will be given a second chance at life.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in this dream and for helping me continue to give our precious hedgehogs the care they need.

Every donation. Every share. Every kindness. Every hedgehog matters. ❤️
