In 2011, a group of volunteers from local churches and service agencies came together with a vision to open a free store in Centreville, Michigan. This free store would serve Centreville, and the surrounding communities. As our mission, core values, and bylaws developed, it didn’t matter that we came from different churches, we all were called by the Lord to serve His people, and Building Hope Free Store (BHFS) became a reality.
Our store is a Christ-Centered, all volunteer center for the free distribution of clothing & household items, while affirming the basic worth of each individual.
We provide a warm environment, to help people deal with extenuating circumstances, and/or provide for those that may be at their lowest point in their lives.
We outgrew our first building, and entered into a land contract to purchase our current building at the cost of $57,000. We are in the process of paying down the amount owed. We have paid down $24,607.40 through generous donations, but we need $32,392.60 to fulfill our land contract by April 1, 2019.
This year alone we have served 7,786 shoppers, and have distributed 103,992 items. The year isn’t over yet! We have also become so much more than a place where individuals come to procure free clothing and household goods. Building Hope Free Store is a resource for people to fulfill their community service requirements.
Our dedicated volunteers act as mentors, providing opportunities for other volunteer/community service participants to learn, or increase valuable work skills.
Special needs individuals gain dignity through assisting at the store. We have a nurse who volunteers her time to provide a free health clinic, which provides minimal services such as blood pressure monitoring, or blood glucose checks.
Everything you donate will go toward paying down our mortgage.
Through your generous donations, you will enable us to be God's Hands helping our community and beyond.
From the beginning the words of Christ in Matthew 25:36-40, have been our lodestar, and we answer His call by dedicating our time, our gifts, and our presence to Building Hope Free Store.
