Debra Selam Medhane Alem Eritrean Orthodox Tewado Church is located in the heart of Washington, D.C. The church hosts several hundred members each Sunday, and has served as a hub for the Eritrean-American community since its inception. It was not always the staple establishment it is today. Medhane Alem had humble beginnings in a member’s garage, where Aboy Keshe (our priest) would preach sermons to a very small, but dedicated group of people who treated other church members like family. The church eventually expanded to a basement, and finally an entire building where sermons are held today, hosting generations of Eritrean families.
With God’s help, these blessings have grown over the years, and we have recently been able to expand to a bigger building. The church has not only served as a House of God, but also a home to Eritrean refugees and place for mentorship of Eritrean youth.
In order to expand, we will need the help of generous souls like you. We promise each and every little bit helps! In Luke 6:38, the Bible says, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
