My vision is one of the most meaningful and impactful missions you could support. My name is Damon Dux, and I am
developing a sustainability enterprise in Northwest Arkansas that will focus on constructing energy-efficient buildings,
improving quality of life, reducing carbon emissions, and ensuring the preservation of our species on this planet.
Does this sound dramatic? Well...what is your gut reaction to the idea of global warming and wildfires in California and the
depletion of the ozone layer and on, and on, and on? And especially if you are like me and have children, I don't want to leave
the planet in a worse condition for them when I pass or for future generations.
I have experience and knowledge regarding energy-efficient construction. I obtained my L.E.E.D. (Leadership in Energy
Efficient Design) certification in 2007 and have managed the construction and development of US Green Building Council
certified commercial projects as well as building an energy-efficient rental house (cover).
Primary Initiatives:
1. Energy Efficient construction. We have the technology and resources to reduce energy consumption and build more
sustainably. These are some of the features and attributes of my construction projects:
- Net Zero (producing as much energy as the building consumes)
- Well-insulated (using bio-based insulation) and tightly sealed building envelope
- Solar Power
- Wind Power
- Reusing Greywater
- Collecting Rooftop rainwater
- Treating Wastewater
- Ground Source Heat Pump Systems
- Geothermal Pile Systems
- Using metal roofs that have a high SRI (Solar Reflective Index)
2. Improving Quality of Life. As a father with four children, I constantly look for ways to improve my children's
experience on this planet. These are a few of the local initiatives that profits from my enterprise will help drive:
- Reforestation. Planting trees is one of the best means of mitigating the effects of climate change and global warming.
Benefits include carbon sequestration, improving wildlife habitats, and increasing soil fertility. Reforestation is critical
in restoring our planet’s health moving into the future.
- Stream Clean-up. We are truly blessed to have the extensive trail network that we have here in NWA. However, it is
sad to see how often the streams are filled with trash and debris. Personally, this can often distract from the idea of
getting outside to experience nature and beauty - only to have to be distracted by this. This will be another focus of
my enterprise is to pair with local municipalities and ensure that there is dedicated manpower for continual
maintenance and creak clean-up
3. Reinvestment into energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives, and local support. My enterprise will finance
local sustainability initiatives that will continue to sprout over the coming decades with the fusion of technology,
entrepreneurship, and the realization of the necessity of integrating these concepts into design and construction. In
addition, we will provide financial support to local disadvantaged groups (Head Start) in order to help them improve their
quality of life.
